Kansas City Museum

Kansas City Museum preserves, interprets, and celebrates Kansas City through collections, exhibitions, and bold programs that reflect the City’s evolution and spirit, and engage visitors in unfolding stories about Kansas City’s vibrant history, cultural heritage, and pride.

The Kansas City Museum is a short 10-minute drive from downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The Museum is in the heart of the Historic Northeast area. The one square block Museum site sits atop a bluff overlooking the Missouri River Valley, and is adjacent to Cliff Drive, a nearly five-mile urban scenic byway, and Kessler Park, named for George Kessler, the architect of Kansas City’s Park and Boulevard system.

In 2016, three parks (Kessler Park, Parade Park, Penn Valley Park) and seven boulevards (Independence, Gladstone, Linwood, Armour, The Paseo, Benton, and Broadway) in Kansas City were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Gladstone, The Paseo, and Benton Boulevards all connect into the Historic Northeast neighborhoods.

The Kansas City Museum is in the middle of an extensive, multi-phased historic restoration and renovation of the entire property. To learn more about the design and planning process, please visit Making a Museum KC on the website. The museum still has some tours, exhibits, and programs for the public. Call for details.

Visitors to the completed renovated museum will enjoy seeing remaining, original interior architecture alongside spaces in process for historic restoration and renovation. In its current state, the Museum reveals visible and enduring traces of the past, as well as the promise of what is to come.

The Kansas City Museum is owned by the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and managed and operated by the City of Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department.
